Instructions: Download SSA Earnings Record (XML)

Follow these steps to create your account and download your raw data for financial planning.

Step 1: Create Your Identity Account

The SSA uses Login.gov or ID.me for secure access. You must verify your identity before you can see your data.

  • Go to the SSA my Social Security portal.
  • Click "Create an Account."
  • Follow the prompts to verify your identity. You will need your Social Security Number, a mailing address, and a valid State ID or Driver's License.

Step 2: Access Your Dashboard

Once your account is verified and you are logged in:

  • Navigate to the main "My Home" or "Eligibility and Earnings" tab.
  • Look for the link labeled "Review Your Full Earnings Record Now" or "Your Social Security Statement."

Step 3: Download the XML Data

To get the machine-readable version (not the PDF):

  • Locate the link that says "Download Your Statement Data" or "Download XML."
  • The file will download with a .xml extension.
  • Save it locally: This file is intended for use in retirement software or spreadsheets.

Important Privacy Note

This XML file contains your full earnings history and personal identity details. Do not download this on a public computer and ensure it is stored in a password-protected folder.
